‘Vote Kar’, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and that’s what the celebrities are stating too. Almost all the stars the PM tagged, have carried forward the message of the importance of voting to their fans and followers. Hrithik Roshan and directors like Shekhar Kapur, Madhur Bhandarkar and Vivek Agnihotri were the latest celebrities to give a boost to the campaign.
After tweeting to several celebrities earlier this month, PM Modi wrote to other notable personalities on Sunday. Tagging Hrithik and Madhavan, PM wrote, “Dear @iHrithik and @ActorMadhavan, Your work has stood out not only for the entertainment quotient but also for the passion and hardwork behind it. As widely respected voices, if you lend your voice towards increasing voter awareness, it strengthens India's democracy. #VoteKar.”
The ‘Guzaarish’ star echoed PM views, “Voting isn’t just about making a choice it’s about being responsible and being sensitive. Please earn your democracy. Please vote this time.”
In a message to the veterans of the industry, Anupam Kher, Shekhar Kapur and Kabir Bedi, PM had lauded them for making the country proud while urging them to spread the ‘Vote Kar’ message among the citizens of the country.
The ‘Mr India’ director promised PM that he will make it a mission and added, “The Constitution of India has given each citizen of India the Fundamental Right to vote. But with Rights come responsibilities. Each one of us must exercise our right to vote. It’s the least you and I can do to uphold the principles of our great Nation #votekar @narendramodi.”
Madhur Bhandarkar, Vivek Agnihotri along with Rajkummar Rao were also among the celebrities called upon as a part of the mission. “Dear @imbhandarkar, @vivekagnihotri and @RajkummarRao, Your work in the cinema industry has touched upon interesting and innovative themes. Your words and actions matter. I request you to increase voter awareness and motivate youth to vote in large numbers. #VoteKar.”
Both the directors replied to the PM enthusiastically. The ‘Chandni Bar’ maker tweeted, “ Dear @narendramodi ji, thank you for your kind words. Your commitment towards building new Indian is truly inspiring. I assure you to do my duty and encourage people to register and vote during the upcoming elections. #VoteKar.”
The ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’ director replied, “Dear hon’ble @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, I’ll do my best to inspire every Indian to participate in this festival of democracy. I am working closely with the first time voters all across India and their enthusiasm convinces me that we are on the right path to build a #NewIndia .”
On March 14, PM Modi had similarly urged many other prominent personalities of various fields like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and many others, and they carried forward PM’s message of ‘Vote for India’ strongly to their fans and followers.
PM Narendra Modi reached out to prominent personalities from a wide spectrum of society soon after posting a blog in which he made “four requests for democracy”. This comes just two weeks ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election.
In his blog, PM Modi said the election is an “occasion for celebration” while asserting that “not voting causes great anguish”.
“Would you want a situation where something happens in the country that you disapprove of and you are forced to think - because I did not go vote that day, this unfortunate situation has arisen and the nation is suffering,” reads PM Modi’s latest blog.
“Spare yourself from that regret and go vote,” advises the prime minister, who also said that by voting, people connect themselves with the country’s dreams and aspirations.
The “four requests”, as put out by PM Narendra Modi, are for the eligible voters to get themselves registered, make sure their names figure in the list of electoral rolls, plan their voting schedule to make sure they use franchise and to mobilise friends and families to vote in large numbers.
