China, which has newly opened its market to Indian films, has shown itself to be a profitable market for a number of key releases. Far from competing with the really big names, however, 'Kaabil' has fared poorly even in comparison to more unheralded thrillers like Andhadhun and Mom.

In comparison to the opening day collection of 'Kaabil' which earned $0.62 million (Rs 4.29 crore), 'Mom' made $1.64 million (Rs 11.47 crore) and 'AndhaDhun' made $1.32 million (Rs 7.33 crore) on opening day. While AndhaDhun made over Rs 330 crore in China, Mom is still running with collections over Rs 110 crore.

While there have been speculations as to the reasons behind such a poor performance, many Indians have questioned why was an Indian film which performed averagely in the Indian Box office was sent to release in China.

'2.0' is the other recent Indian film to release in China after the magnificent success of several others, such as '3 Idiots', 'PK', 'Dangal', 'Secret Superstar', 'Hichki', 'Mom' and 'AndhaDhun'.
