Esha Gupta has expressed regret after she was accused of racism against Alex Iwobi. The actress has apologised to the Nigerian footballer and also to Arsenal Football Club.
The ‘Baadshaho’ star was slammed for sharing a screenshot and laughing at a Whatsapp conversation with a person who called Iwobi ‘gorilla faced.’
Her apology later was called a ‘non-apology’ as she used the words ‘guys m sorry you thought it was racist.’(sic)
Furious fans of the football club had demanded Esha apologise to Iwobi and many wrote she should be stripped of the position of a brand ambassador and also that she stops supporting the club.
Now, in a letter, the actress apologised for her ‘ignorant action’ which happened due to being ‘deeply engrossed’ in the game as an ‘ardent fan.’
According to reports, Esha wrote, “I am extremely sorry for my ignorant action last Friday. Being an ardent fan of many years, I was deeply engrossed and caught up in the game.” The 33-year-old clarified that she “clearly did not realise the racial undertone.”
"For this, I am deeply regretful. I cannot begin to imagine how much I have hurt your sentiments. Racism has absolutely no place in my heart, and I promise you, for whatever it's worth, going forward this will never happen again," she said.
Esha also apolosided to Iwobi and hoped he’d forgive him for her ‘careless actions.’
She even sent a letter to English Premier League Club Arsenal, to accept her apology, “I hope the club can accept my humblest apology and give me the opportunity to make amends. I promise to be very responsible from here on.”
