Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan paid homage to India's former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee following his demise on August 16, 2018. Atal Bihari Vajpayee who received the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee in 2015, breathed his last at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Former PM Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital on June 11 due to a kidney tract infection, chest congestion and excretion problem.
Following the news of his demise, several wishes poured in from across the nation - from Bollywood actors to political big-wigs and cricketers, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was remembered by one and all. Shah Rukh posted an emotional note on social media to remember the Indian leader with the following caption, "For The Poet Prime Minister of our country, love you Baapji..."
In the post, the 'Fan' actor opened up about their close-knit bond. Shah Rukh Khan claimed his father took him to every speech of the former PM in Delhi.
"My father used to take me for every speech that Mr. Vajpayee made in Delhi when I was growing up," Shah Rukh Khan wrote in the post.
He further added how he later got the opportunity to meet the political leader and had spent time together discussing poetry, films, politics and their ailing knees. He also revealed to have enacted one of Vajpayee's poems on screen.
The Bollywood's Baadshah said that Vajpayee was addressed as 'Baapji' at his house and lamenting his death the actor said, "Today the country has lost Father Figure and a great leader."
Shah Rukh Khan further stated that with the demise of former PM Vajpayee, he has lost a part of his childhood. In the post, he said, "Personally I have lost a part of my childhood and growing up memories of childhood and growing up memories of learning to smile and of course poetry."
The actor said he considers himself the luckiest person to have had his influence during his formative years. Wishing his soul to rest in peace, the Bollywood icon extended his condolence to his friends and family.
The concluding line of his post read, "Will miss your smiling face Baapji" expressing the emotional connect the actor had with Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
