Former Bollywood actress and fitness enthusiast Malaika Arora recently opened up about her divorce with actor Arbaaz Khan at Kareena Kapoor Khan's radio show 'What Women Want'. The Bollywood diva who prefers to keep her personal life off the limelight, for the first time opened up about her divorce on a public platform and said that it is better to get divorced than to continue with an unhappy relationship.
Sharing her experiences of getting divorced, Malaika revealed that she was asked repeatedly even before the night of her divorce if she is sure about it. However, when she finally took the decision, her near and dear ones stood by her and supported her.
Talking about the same in a conversation with Kareena Kapoor, who is known to be her very close friend, the actress said, "I would urge a lot of women out there, I am not saying get divorced, but if you are in the process, if you are in an unhappy marriage and that's what you decide to do, I think you should do it with a lot of dignity and self-respect. Just make sure you are a strong wonderful woman."
When asked about how tough it is to take the decision, she said, "Well it's never ever easy like no other major decision in your life, and at the end of the day, someone has to be blamed, you have to point fingers at someone because of its general human nature to go about things... but for me happiness is more important, it's not just me but happiness of everybody around."
"We were just two people in a situation where we were making each other extremely unhappy which was impacting everybody else's life. So it means that I have to make it or take such a major decision in my life," she added.
Talking about having a child in a broken marriage, she said, "I would rather like to see my child in an environment which is happy rather than one which is completely disruptive. He can see that we as individuals are far more happy than what we were in that marriage."
She was then asked about her views on being friends with her ex-husband, to which she replied, "That's a tricky one because some manage to strike that balance, some never. I think it's more when you have a child involved; it's essential to continue having some sort of a cordial relationship."
"I wouldn't say that I and Arbaaz are best of friends or something like that, but I think we are cordial, we have a very healthy relationship and of course, our child is the most important factor in our life," she said.
Talking about still being on good terms with her husband's family, she said, "I think it comes from a certain sense of upbringing that you can't just snip ties off or suddenly behave aloof."
Malaika Arora, who is now rumored to be dating actor Arjun Kapoor, also spoke about dating post-divorce. She said, "Every woman would feel intimidated to jump into that datingpool again, and I think every woman should jump into it with equal gusto, but you need a little to back away from everything rethink."
On the work front, Malaika served as a judge on the television reality show 'India's Got Talent' along with filmmaker Karan Johar and Kirron Kher till December.
