The 'Padmaavat' actress has often spoken about the phase when she was suffering from depression.  In 2015, she had revealed that during the shoot of her film 'Happy New Year', she was struggling to go for work each day. It was after she broke down in front of her mother, did she seek professional help from a doctor suggested by her mother. After talking to the psychologist she found out that she has been suffering from anxiety and depression.

Last year, the actress shared a video of herself speaking about her diagnosis and urging people to come forward with their stories of mental health illness.

The actress said, "In 2014, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. But in India, 90 percent of people who suffer from depression, don't seek help. Depression  is like any other illness that requires intervention. So if you are someone who has experienced any form of mental illness, I urge you  to share your story by using the #NotAshamed."
