A striking feature about India over the years has been how multiple festivals and events of national importance often coincide. August 15, 2019, this time, is commemorated not just for Independence Day, but also another festival, Raksha Bandhan. But that was not all, R Madhavan informed that even Avani Avittam, a ritual among Brahmins, was also celebrated on the same day. The actor and his family expressed wishes to his fans for the triple celebration, which also included his son tying the Rakhi to him.

Triple celebration

Sharing a snap of his son Vedaant tying the rakhi to him, Madhavan wrote that his son did so because his sister had sent it to the youngster. “When your son ties Rakhi to you because your Sister sent it to him . Ha ha ha .. WISH YOU AL A VERY HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN,”(sic) he tweeted.

The reason why the father-son were seen with only the sacred thread on their upper body is because they conducted the rituals for Avani Avittam, a traditional practice honoured among Brahmins.

The ‘Rang De Basanti’ star then shared another photograph after the rituals along with his father Ranganathan Seshadri as well and captioned, “Wish you all a very happy INDEPENDENCE DAY, RAKSHA BANDHAN AND AAVANIYAA VATTAM.”

Professional front

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Madhavan last featured in a cameo in his 'Tanu Weds Manu' director Aanand L Rai's 'Zero'. He is currently working on ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, based on the story of former Indian Space Research Orgnisation scientist Nambi Narayanan, where he is not the actor, but also the director, producer and writer. The actor had made headlines for the resemblance with Narayanan.
