Expressing the history of a country like India who has been through tough times through the lens can be a very tough thing to do. Filmmakers from over the globe have been researching about India's history and been making some informative documentaries that show the country's struggle and how it managed to transform from undeveloped to a developing country. The documentary revolves around a young footballer who is denied to play for Santos FC when called upon to train in Brazil. The film focuses on the fact that the silent-war going on in Kashmir kept a boy from fulfilling his dreams to play soccer on a professional level. The director of the film, Ashwin Kumar was presented with a National Award for the same. While making the film, the crew had to go through a lot of problems related to permission to shoot, electricity and the political conditions of Kashmir.

The Great Indian Railway

The National Geographic documentary covers all the aspects of how the Railway was built to how it affects the country. It shows that the trains can be a very luxurious option to travel and also how it can be used as toy trains like the one in Darjeeling. This documentary was released in February 1995 and was directed by William Livingston.

Children of the Pyre

This documentary is based on two kids who scavenge India's largest crematorium Manikarnika, to find old rags in order to earn some bucks. The special thing about this film is that it depicts the horrifying living conditions that are a battle for the residents on a day-to-day basis. This film depicts poverty through a completely new lens and an interesting perspective.

The Story of India

This BBC six-part documentary which is written and presented by the historian Michael Wood will thoroughly inform the viewer about India’s history. The series covers the Indus Valley Civilisation to India's freedom, while extensively studying historical evidence and archaeological findings. The host has also communicated with the locals in order to get first-hand information. The best part about the documentary is it gives equal importance to the history of Southern India, which is otherwise neglected in school books.
