The makers of 'Mental Hai Kya' released new posters of Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao starrer a few days back showing the two balancing a blade on their tongues. But the film has come under controversy as Mental health experts call it 'atrocious and insensiive' towards people suffering from mental health issues.

The Indian Psychiatric Society has filed an official complaint to Prasoon Joshi, chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanding a change in the title. The committee further wrote, "We take serious objections to the title of the movie which is discriminative, stigmatising, degrading, inhumane in projecting mental disorders and people who suffer from mental disorders."

"We strongly demand that the title be removed with immediate effect preventing further damage to the modesty of mental health service users. We also demand to censor any sequence in the movie that is violating the rights of persons with mental disorder,” the letter read.

As the very title suggests the film revolves around the quirky characters of Kangana and Rajkummar Rao. According to the makers, the film celebrates the imperfections and the crazy within individuals and shouts out ‘Sanity is overrated’. The upcoming thriller film marks the second collaboration between Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut, as the pair previously shared the screen for Vikas Bahl's 'Queen'.

The film is directed by filmmaker Prakash Kovelamudi and scripted by Kanika Dhillon. It will be jointly produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shailesh R Singh under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and Karma media and entertainment.
