We are halfway through 2017, without much from the cinematic world to remember. The movies have largely failed to impress the critics and also, the box office is stuck in the puddle of flops, with Bahubali 2: The Conclusion being the only exception one can instantly think of. Even biggies like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan couldn’t cause quite the stir in collections. In this drought of good movies, we can’t ignore the scarcity of good music too. There is a general scarcity of good content in Bollywood, and we can feel it in all the remixed version of old classics, that tear apart the music we fell in love with. Be it 'Humma Humma' or 'Tumma Tumma',  movies these days aren’t complete until they have induced EDM into a good old song of the 90s, sometimes even against the likes of the music composer himself.

AR Rahman himself admitted not liking the idea of recycling the tune of Humma Humma for OK Jannu.

If a legend like Rahman goes unheard, it won’t be wrong to conclude that the filmmakers are mistaking this remix culture for a hit formula. In the past five years, Bollywood has successfully brought down some of its own beautiful compositions like Oye Oye, Hawa Hawai, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Dum Maro Dum, Wajah Tum Ho, Laila among many other names.  As if driving “inspiration” from other movies wasn’t enough that now even Bollywood’s music is highly inspired! In fact, they aren’t sparing the Punjabi tracks either, we all grooved to the Katrina Kaif version of Kaala Chashma, but the truth remains except for Katrina’s face value the song was a trash adaptation. Recently, Bollywood is also making remixes of old Hindi songs that seem to be ringing well with the youngsters and become a party anthem as soon as the album releases. Bollywood songs like 'Kaala Chashma' are the remake of old Hindi songs that now can be seen playing at each and every event, including birthdays and weddings.

While we are all in favor of recycling and reusing, however destroying beauty in the name of it isn't the right way. Bollywood isn't toying around with more songs and lyrics, but classics and nostalgia!
