Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that the Chandrayaan-2 mission will overcome all obstacles in reaching its target very soon. Communications with Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander to ISRO's ground station in Bengaluru were lost before touchdown on the hitherto unexplored lunar south pole in the early hours of Saturday. Bollywood celebrities took to their social media handle to praise the ISRO scientists and their hard work. Responding to actor Anushka Sharma and director Shekhar Kapur, PM Modi said, "They (ISRO scientists) make us proud with their resilience and spirit of exploration." Take a look -

Modi said he is with ISRO and so is the nation. "We came very close but we need to cover more ground in the times to come. Learning from today will make us stronger and better. The nation is proud of our space programme and scientists. The best is yet to come in our space programme. There are new frontiers to discover and new places to go. India is with you. Effort was worth it and so was the journey. It will make us stronger and better. There will be a new dawn and better tomorrow... I am with you, nation is with you," the prime minister said.

Chandrayaan-2's Vikram Lander loses contact

Towards the final moments of the historic feat, just before landing on the luner surface, the mission suffered some technical glitches. As it stands, ISRO's Twitter handle shared that they have lost communication at 3:00am IST. Speaking about the situation, ISRO Chairman K Sivan confirmed in a statement that contact with Vikram lander was lost at about 2.1 kilometers above the Moon's surface and added that the ground station is analysing the data. ISRO said the data from the Chandrayaan 2 mission is being analysed.
