The country’s respect for the Armed Forces has deservingly gone through the roof in recent times after the brave sacrifices of the CRPF jawans in the terror attack at Pulwama, Indian Air Force's air strikes along the Line of Control at the border and of course, Wing Commander’s Abhinandan’s heroic efforts. At such a time, Akshay Kumar and the team of his next film, ‘Kesari’ have decided to dedicate their movie, also based on the valiant soldiers of the country in 1897, to 'Bharat Ke Veer’, the country’s Armed Forces.
In a recent statement, Akshay said, "I am an army man's son and probably, deep down in my heart, I wanted to follow my father's footsteps. I stepped into show business, but my heart lies with the armed forces. Whenever I see men and women in uniform, I am filled with pride and also a sense of responsibility."
"My producers and I are happy to dedicate Kesari, based on the Battle of Saragarhi, the bravest battle ever fought, to Bharat Ke Veer. It is a film that showcases valour and the highest degree of 'desh bhakti' (patriotism). It is a befitting tribute to our soldiers, who have laid down their lives for the nation."
Akshay had famously lent his support to the Bharat Ke Veer initiative of the Government, a fund-raising platform to help citizens donate to the families of the martyrs two years ago. According to reports, he has enquired if the funds, apart from being used for the martyrs, can be utilised for the injured soldiers as well because many of them struggle to earn a livelihood after that.
‘Kesari’ is the story about the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 soldiers of the British Indian Army’s 36th Sikh Regiment took on 10,000 Afghan invaders. The movie, directed by Anurag Singh, and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, among others, also stars Parineeti Chopra and hits the theatres on March 21.
