Bollywood is reeling in shock as famed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani became the latest name to be accused in the #MeToo movement. During the making of the film 'Sanju', a woman working with him has accused him of sexual assault. The filmmaker has since denied these statements. In the light of this new major name being embroiled in such a big controversy, actor Emraan Hashmi had something to say.

When Republic TV exclusively got in touch with the actor during Why Cheat India promotions, he said, "It is very shocking. Two months back there were so many names coming out and on Twitter, there was a new name being disclosed every day. It is unfortunate that a lot of them are my colleagues, I've worked with them and it's just shocking that it is so prevalent, not only in the film industry but in different industries, where names haven't come up in MeToo movement."

However, Emraan also cited the positive aspects of such a movement as he continued, "I think it is a good time for women as they have an avenue that if some incident like this has happened with them, they can share it in such a medium, where the press can pick it up and everyone's accountable."

The actor also added that the movement is only kicking off here in India, "But there is a long way to go. The moment started in the West with a ferocity and it has happened here too, but it has to still find its legs and get in a more powerful place in different areas, not just the film industry. Business, MNCs, advertising everywhere. When it happens in the film industry it gets more publicity, but such incidents are happening with women everywhere, in every profession. The sooner a crackdown happens on these sexual predators, the better."

In the meantime, Hirani has dismissed the accusations through his lawyer Anand Desai, calling it “false and completely unjustified”. While Vidhu Vinod Chopra didn’t respond to the website, his wife said that both of them have offered their full support to the complainant.
