‘Jabariya Jodi, the return of the Sidharth Malhotra-Parineeti Chopra jodi after the much-loved ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ has not been the best for the fans of the on-screen duo. Not only did the reunion failed to fetch good reviews from critics, but has opened poorly at the box office. The love story could rake in only Rs 3.15 crore on Friday and is now faced with the task of showing a massive turnaround to post a respectable total.
As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the romantic comedy set in Bihar, opened to ‘dull’ collections, with the figure of Rs 3.15 crore. He added that the Sidharth-Parineeti starrer needed ‘miraculous growth’ over Saturday and Sunday to post a formidable total. Adarsh wrote, “#JabariyaJodi is dull on Day 1... Needs miraculous growth on Day 2 and 3 for a respectable weekend total... Fri ₹ 3.15 cr. India biz.”
The turnaround seems unlikely since the response from not just critics, but also audiences, have not been positive. Some critics have absolutely bashed the movie.
After ‘Aiyaary’, Sidharth looks set to register another flop and would quickly turn his attention to the more ‘massy’ ‘Marjaavaan’, which is an out-and-out masala film, also starring Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh.
Parineeti, though her last movie ‘Kesari’ was a hit, she only had a cameo in it, and this seems to be another failure after ‘Namastey England’ which was a dud at the box office. She’d hope there is a change in fortunes with ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’, ‘The Girl on the Train’ remake and the biopic on Saina Nehwal.
Meanwhile, ‘The Lion King’ is still bringing footfalls, as it neared the Rs 150-crore mark.
The movie now stands at Rs 143.96 crore after three weeks.
