There were a lot of things that worked for ‘Kabir Singh’ even before it released. Being the remake of a popular Telugu film, the chemistry between Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani, and songs that attained massive popularity. However, even the makers might not have expected that it’d do such tremendous business at the box office. The Sandeep Vanga Reddy directorial has not just entered the Rs 100-crore club in mere five days, it has beaten some of the most popular films of this year like ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Kesari’, with Rs 134.42 crore collections in the first week.

While trade experts had predicted an opening of Rs 10 crore for ‘Kabir Singh’, the movie did double the figure on Friday. After substantial growth on Saturday, the collections hit the roof on Sunday with Rs 27.91 crore on Sunday to take the weekend collections over Rs 70 crore, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

While many films score over the weekend, it is the weekdays when they struggle, and that’s where 'Kabir Singh’ stood out. The love story earned two-digit figures on every single day, from Rs 17.54 crore on Monday to Rs 13.61 crore on Thursday. As a result, the collections now stand at Rs 134.42 crore.

The box office figures on weekdays helped ‘Kabir Singh’, beat by a big margin, what Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari’ and Ranveer Singh's ‘Gully Boy’ earned in their extended weekend of 8 days.

The only movie ‘Kabir Singh’ trailed this year is ‘Bharat’ which minted Rs 180.05 crore in its extended weekend of nine days.

But what’s interesting is that the Salman Khan-starrer had shown a substantial drop later on, and only recently managed to touch the Rs 200-crore mark.

‘Kabir Singh’, meanwhile, is guaranteed to touch the Rs 200-crore mark and might even challenge the biggest grosser of the year, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, which earned close to Rs 250 crore.
