Kajol is one of the most renowned female actors of Bollywood. She is the daughter of the veteran actor Tanuja and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee. Kajol made her acting debut in the 1992 romantic film, Bekhudi. Her first commercial success in Bollywood was the 1993 thriller movie Baazigar where she was paired with Shah Rukh Khan for the very first time. The movie had an unconventional storyline and both the lead actors' work was loved by the audience across the nation.

Kajol's best movies

Kajol featured in several movies after that in the lead role. She acted in various romantic films including Yeh Dillagi in 1994, Ishq in 1998. Kajol received a significant recognition in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, which was a mystery film released in 1997. She portrayed a conservative NRI's daughter in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995 alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Kajol also played a perfect tomboy in Karan Johar's romantic film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. She also played a perfect talkative woman in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. In the 2006 release Fanaa, Kajol was seen portraying the role of a blind woman in the romantic thriller. Kajol also won five Filmfare Awards for Best Actor (Female). Kajol's highest-grossing film was an action-comedy, Dilwale, directed by Rohit Shetty which also featured Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon.

Life outside Bollywood

Apart from her filmography, Kajol is also a social activist and is noted for her work with widows and children. For her work, she also received a Karmaveer Puraskaar in the year 2008. Kajol has also featured as a talent judge for a reality show. She holds a managerial position at Devgan Entertainment and Software Ltd.

In the year 2011, the Government of India honoured Kajol with a Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour of the country. Recently Kajol made her comeback to the big screen with Helicopter Eela. The movie is produced by her husband Ajay Devgn. In the movie, Kajol will be portraying the role of a single mother who is also an aspiring singer. Kajol will be next seen in her upcoming film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, based on the life of Tanaji Malusare. The movie will be releasing in 2020.
