Kangana Ranaut called Karan Johar the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’, but today she is known as the ‘flagbearer of nationalism.’ The actress has been vocal about her patriotism over the years, so much so that now she says those insulting the idea of nationalism are the only people she is judgemental about.

In an exclusive interview with Republic Bharat ahead of her upcoming film ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ release, Kangana was asked if she was judgemental in real life?  “I am judgemental only about one thing, jab koi insaan jis thali me khaye usi me ched kare’. I feel sympathy for such a person. There are a lot of youngsters today who talk like this, speak ill of the country.

"I am very emotional about national integrity or the nationalism sentiment. A youth might feel the emotions of passion or hate or sympathy, that is your physical response in any situation. But nationalism is not a physical response, but a spiritual response.

"What is mine, should be of everyone, what’s of everyone is mine. The person goes against his survival to live a sentiment, it is a big thing. To insult and bring this feeling down and not show any emotion towards it, that hurts me the most.”

In the interview, she was also asked about social media users asking why the actress decides to be the flag-bearer of nationalism and why she targets people over this? Kangana replied, “I have to lift this flag because no one else did it. Our industry makes ridiculous films. In fact, they are remaking all these bad films. But didn’t they find anything substantial in Maharana Pratap’s story, Prithviraj Chauhan, Chandragupt Maurya, Chanakya, Alexander the Great, they didn’t find anything in it?

"Why is no one picking up the flag? Tell me one person who’s done it, that would make me feel this is being done, so there is no need for me to get into this. There are a lot of activities that many before us have done, it’s not that only we are doing this.

"But Nationalism is such a sentiment, that any country which has achieved heights of progress, like China, the feeling of togetherness with respect to the country, is high. So I want in our country this feeling should be there.

"Career is something else, many actresses have come, many will go, be it successful, beautiful or those who do good work, but if you go without doing anything significant, something beyond your needs, then what is the point? You come and just leave.”

The ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ star also is fearless about being the sole warrior taking on the industry with protests over many issues, “No, I’m not afraid. Unlike times when such voices were suppressed, these times are different when awareness has increased, the sentiment of nationalism is catching on big time and people have been embracing it. They think if we have to adopt a sentiment, why not nationalism, let’s all move ahead and progress.

"I feel whatever support I have got from people, be it from Hindi media or regional languages, they are filled with love for the country. Those coming from small cities or villages, we have somewhere seen that life, the grassroots, we know that the people on top will be sad if equality comes in, and they are suffering in this grief.”
