Earlier in July, Kangana Ranaut had sent a legal notice to the Entertainment Journalists Guild of India, that called for a ban on the actress, and the Press Club of India, that supported it. The notice, sent through her lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee, accused the two organisations of ‘criminally intimidating’ and ‘defaming’ Kangana and demanded, along with an apology, that the bodies withdraw the ban within 24 hours, failing which legal action would be initiated against them.

The notice termed the Entertainment Journalists Guild as ‘unregistered’ and the Press Club of India as ‘merely a press club’ with ‘no legal standing’ to ‘unconstitutionally’ ban the actress.
