A delegation of Bollywood producers and actors met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a day visit to Mumbai, at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, to discuss the issues being faced by the Indian film industry. Several filmmakers including Ritesh Sidhwani, Karan Johar, Sidharth Roy Kapur, the president of the Film Producers Guild, Rakesh Roshan, Ronnie Screwwala, Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) were present at the event. Actors Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan were also present at the event.
Following the meeting, filmmaker Karan Johar took to Twitter and shared the picture with the Prime Minister where he can be seen shaking hands with the country chief. He also briefed their discussion on social media and captioned the post saying, "It was enlightening to hear the honourable Prime Minster @narendramodishare his views on our Industry’s soft power status and the strength of our cinema...he gave our media and entertainment representatives a patient and solid hearing....thank you, Sir!!"

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also extended heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister post the meeting. He shared an inside picture from the meeting where the Prime Minister can be seen having a conversation with the film fraternity. He captioned the picture saying, "Heartfelt thank you to the honourable Prime Minister @narendramodiji for taking out time to hear us at length, discuss issues pertaining to our industry and assuring positive consideration of suggestions."

As per media reports, the delegation pitched for lower and uniform rates of GST for the entertainment industry and urged the PM for the development of Mumbai as the global entertainment capital. Expressing there strong support for the PM’s vision of making India a five trillion dollar economy in the near future they pointed out how Bollywood churns over 1000 films a year, is not just the biggest film industry in the world, but is also one of the most profitable industries in the country.
In response to the same, ANI quoted PM Modi as saying, "The Indian entertainment industry enjoys immense popularity across the world. It is one of the key elements of India's rising soft power status, globally."
Reportedly, he also assured that the Union Government is supportive of the media and entertainment industry, and would definitely consider the suggestions.
