Karan Johar Talks About Nepotism, Says He Has Developed A 'Nepospasm'

Karan Johar has finally spoken about nepotism in the industry which peaked as a controversy during his appearance in the 2017 IIFA awards when he, Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan held that nepotism rocks on stage.

The season 6 of the most popular and controversial chat show 'Koffee With Karan' has premiered on Sunday, October 21 and filmmaker Karan Johar has resumed his role as the host of the show. In the chat show, popularly known for digging out controversial statements from celebrities, host Karan has finally spoken about nepotism in the industry.

While addressed the monologue of 'Koffee with Karan' Season 6 , the filmmaker said, "That word was given birth to on my show and you know how that went. After that, we as an industry have been bearing the brunt of this word and now I personally have developed a 'nepospasm'. What is nepospasm? A pain I get in my neck when I hear the word nepotism. What to do, it's the order of the day and we have to live with it"

Nepotism peaked as a controversy during Karan Johar's appearance in the 2017 IIFA awards when he, Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan held that nepotism rocks on stage. This created a huge stir in the industry and several Bollywood stars have been giving their take on this prevalent topic. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has also discussed the same in the last season of 'Koffee With Karan' where she reportedly identified host Karan Johar as the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’. 

Bollywood divas Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt graced the couch in the opening episode of 'Koffee With Karan' Season 6. The show will also bring in father-daughter duo Sara Ali Khan and Saif Ali Khan, siblings Janhvi Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, and dynamic duo Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar, and also actor Aamir Khan to grace the couch in the upcoming episodes.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan is also backing multiple films. He is serving as a producer to upcoming ventures- 'Simmba', 'Kesari', 'Kalank', 'Student of the Year 2', 'Drive' and 'Brahmastra'. Also, the filmmaker is all set to direct the upcoming film 'Takht' which features Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Bhumi Pednekar. The film which is reportedly a period drama is all set to hit the theatres in 2020.
