Karan Oberoi’s lawyer says ‘false’ allegations of rape were made to 'defame' the actor-singer, A Band of Boys members also come in support

Karan Oberoi’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari called the allegations against his client ‘baseless’ after the actor-singer was arrested on charges of rape by a woman. He also stated that the accusations have been made with the intention to defame the celebrity and that they’re taking all the steps to ‘undo the damage.’  Meanwhile, Oberoi’s celebrity friends like Pooja Bedi and his colleagues from A Band of Boys too supported him.

Karan Oberoi’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari said in a statement, “Allegations are false. We are taking the necessary steps to undo the damage that has been done and expose the person behind it.” 

He added, “Both of them initially had a casual chat but later, the woman started pressing Oberoi for various reasons. In order to extort money from him, she threatened to lodge a police complaint against him to defame him. When he refused to comply, the woman approached the police and registered a case on the basis of baseless allegations, after which Oberoi too approached the police and gave his statement.

A day after the charge, Bedi spoke about the charges against Oberoi in an interview to a leading media publication. She said that Oberoi is one of the 'nicest, decent and kindest person' and that she cannot 'make sense' of all the charges against him.  

Narrating the incident of how the complainant and Oberoi met, she said that the two started seeing each other in 2016 and in 2018. Oberoi had filed an NC against the woman who then went on to give an interview saying that she has given him gifts as he is financially not that well-off. Highlighting the fact that the complainant just after a year she is now accusing him of 'rape', Bedi alleged that the woman is just distorting facts. She added that a 'false charge' can ruin a man's life and that women in these matters should also be questioned.  

Karan was arrested in  Mumbai on Monday afternoon after an FIR was registered against him at the Oshiwara police station under Section 376 and 384 (rape and extortion) of the Indian Penal Code 

Police officials were quoted as saying with reference to the FIR, “Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act but also demanded money from the victim threatening to release the video if she did not pay up.”
