About Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth depends on the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon or 'Purnima'. According to the rituals, married women keep a fast for their husbands. They apply henna on their hands and wear new clothes. Traditionally, along with other women, they narrate folk tales and chant 'Karwa Chauth vrat' stories. Along with this, as per the traditions, Goddess Parvati is worshipped first, followed by Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh and Lord Kartikeya. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati is the wife of Lord Shiva, who is considered as the one whose husband has a long life.
