Bollywood actress Lara Dutta made India proud in the year 2000 when she beat actresses Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza to be crowned as Miss Universe. That was a special year for India as it witnessed a rare victory that year with Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza bagging the coveted titles of Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific, respectively.
Although Priyanka overshadowed Lara when it comes to career, Lara's fans still have a reason to celebrate. According to reports, Lara scored the highest points in the history of beauty pageant competitions. The 'Bhagam Bhaag' actress grabbed a score of 9.99 from almost all of her judges and also achieved the highest score in the swimsuit round. Not only that, Lara also earned the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest for her finale question. And the best part is that even after 18 long years the actress still holds the record for achieving the highest score in a beauty pageant.
After Sushmita Sen, who became the first Indian to win the title of Miss Universe in 1994, Lara bagged the title after a hiatus of six years in 2000. Ever since then, no Indian contestant has won the crown until now. Lara had also won the title of Miss Intercontinental in 1997.
India celebrated the win of Manushi Chillar in 2018 who was crowned Miss World in 2017. Manushi is the sixth Indian woman to win the title. Reita Faria was the first, claiming the title of Miss World back in 1966. Post which actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the title 1994, followed by Diana Haydon in 1997, Yukta Mookhey in 1999 and Priyanka Chopra in 2000.
On the work front, Lara Dutta made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with the film 'Andaaz' opposite Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. The film ran successfully at box office success and won her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. Lara was last seen in a cameo in 'Welcome To New York' which released in 2018. The movie also featured Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles while actors including Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, Rana Daggubati, Sushant Singh Rajput and Aditya Roy Kapur appeared in cameos.
