Hema Malini, the popular veteran actress who is also fondly known as 'Dream Girl' by her fans, turned 71 on October 16.  The actor is regarded as one of the most successful stars in the era of the 70s. She is married to a famous Bollywood actor Dharmendra. Following an illustrious, career in the film industry where she gave several hits, Hema Malini entered politics in 2004 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. She is also a Member of Parliament from the Mathura constituency. Here is a list of five classics from her career.

Sholay

The 1975 action film was directed by Ramesh Sippy and is considered to be one of the most remarkable films in the history of Indian cinema. The film is still known for its brilliant characters which were written by Salim-Javed. Hema Malini portrayed the role of Basanti who rode a horse cart in the town of Ramgarh. Her chatter-box and spirited Basanti is arguably one of the most memorable characters in popular culture.

Dream Girl

The film was released in the year 1977. It was directed by Pramod Chakravorty. The actor was promoted as a 'Dream Girl' from the very beginning of her career which eventually led her to star in the movie as well. She was paired opposite legendary actor Dharmendra. 


Seeta Aur Geeta

The film made Hema Malini win a Filmfare Award for the Best Actress. She played the dual role of twin sisters. It was considered one of the best performances in her career. The songs and her chemistry with both Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar were appreciated by both fans and critics alike.

Johny Mera Naam

The 1970 drama film featured legendary actor Dev Anand opposite the sensational Hema Malini. It was directed by Vijay Anand. It is one of the highest-grossing films in Hema Malini's career. The film was also remade in Kannada as Apoorva Sangama.

Baghban

Baghban is one of the highly acclaimed movies in Indian cinema. It was released in the year 2003. The film mostly focused on the relationship between parents and children. Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini worked together after a gap of 20 years in this movie. It was directed by Ravi Chopra and was one of the biggest hits in his career.
