Be it English Vinglish or Queen or Mother India, many Bollywood films have given enough reasons for women to celebrate. Here is a list of five such films

In a time when we’re rejoicing all things women, it seems only fair that we celebrate and give a shout-out to some of the women-centric movies in Bollywood and Hollywood. Here’s a list of movies that have broken stereotypes and have gone beyond the realms of just entertainment. 

English Vinglish (2012)

A middle-aged woman who has lived her entire life under the shadows of her family finally gathers the courage to do something for herself. She goes out every day to learn English which has always given her an inferiority complex. She stuns everyone when she’s confidently able to overcome her inability to speak English. Watch this movie to get inspired to do something that you have been longing to do for a long time now.

Mother India (1957)

A legendary movie released in 1957. It is a story of a poverty-stricken village woman named Radha. After the death of her husband, she struggles to raise her three sons. Despite being troubled by her moneylender she sets a goddess-like moral example of an ideal Indian woman.

Dangal ( 2016)

Dangal is the story of a father who has faith that his daughters are better than anybody's son. Breaking the stereotype, he wants to train them for wrestling. He has faith that they will one day get Gold Medel for India. His daughters don't fail him. After rigorous training, they win gold medals for the country. 

Queen (2013)

Kangana Ranaut’s movie Queen is about a middle-class girl who had always followed everything a ‘good girl from a good family’ should be doing. Yet her to be husband walks out on her on their wedding day. He left her because he felt she’s not a match. Immensely hurt by him, she goes on her honeymoon alone and meets new people, does things which she conventionally would not have done.

Sex and The City 1 & 2 ( 2008 & 2010 respectively)

It is a movie which has shown most of the challenges women face. Be it a Miranda at her workplace reaching a glass ceiling, or struggling to keep a balance between her work life and family, or Charlotte’s grief of not being able to conceive, then managing two kids alone. Samantha living life at her own terms. Carrie’s biggest fear of her beloved boyfriend walking out on her on their wedding day come true. This movie has covered a variety of issues women face during their lifetime.
