The hidden subtext carries a lot of expressions along with itself. Indian lyricists have delivered some of the best poetry and songs.  They have never failed to impress the listeners. Gulzar

Gulzar is one of the most influential personalities in the country. He has penned down some of the most classic songs as well as movies. The Oscar-winning artist has written Tujhse Naraaz from Masoom, Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se, Yaara seeli seeli from Lekin, Challa from Jab Tak hai Jaan and many more songs. He has also won one Grammy award for his outstanding work in Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.

Javed Akhtar

The legendary lyricist is a master when it comes to writing. His lyrics have always touched the hearts and added a touch of Midas in the songs. He has also written some of the off-beat and unusual songs that have gone to become major hits like Dekha Ek khawab from Silsila, Senorita from Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, Ek do teen from Tezaab and many other hits. He has also participated as a social activist for the rights of writers and is a recipient of the Padma Shri (1999) and Padma Bhushan award (2007).

Prasoon Joshi

'Nayi Dagar Naya Safar Mera, Jo ban sake tu Humsafar mera' and many other magnificent lyrics are penned down by Prasoon Joshi. He has also received the National Award for Best Lyrics for his work in Taare Zameen Par. He was appointed as the chairperson for the Central Board of Film Certification in the year 2017.

Irshad Kamil

Irshad Kamil is one of the few lyricists who has kept the true essence of Urdu alive along with the correct pronunciations. The famous lyricist hails from Malerkotla, Punjab and has also been awarded Kaifi Azmi Award for Urdu Lyricist. He has written some of the best songs for films like Madaari, Pink, Rockstar, Tamasha and many more.
