The hype surrounding ‘2.0’ reached its peak on Thursday as the much-awaited action sci-fi drama hit the screens. Rajinikanth fans took to the movie in the same way as has been the norm over the years, feeding his cut-out with milk, dancing in the theatres, setting off fireworks and more.
#2point trends were on top on Twitter almost throughout the day. Despite the film getting leaked by a piracy website, the excitement for the movie was unparalleled. And it’s not just fans, even celebrities were equally geared up for the movie. Many of those who watched the movie went gaga over it, while others, excited to catch it up soon, expressed their confidence about the movie breaking all box office records.
Tamil multi-talented artiste Dhanush called the movie ‘mind-blowing’ and ‘on par with a Hollywood film.’ He also raved about ‘Thalaiva’, his father-in-law Rajinikanth, how he was left mesmerised by ‘the only one.’ He heaped praised on the director Shankar calling him the ‘pride of Tamil/Indian cinema’. He lauded Akshay Kumar for living the character to perfection and also praised ‘God’s child’ AR Rahman for the music, cinematographer Nirav Shah and Muthuraj for the art direction.
His sister-in-law, Soundarya Rajinikanth called the movie ‘out of this world.’
‘Kolaveri Di’ composer Anirudh Ravichander called it an ‘out of the world experience’ and was sure the movie will rewrite all box office records. He wrote ‘bow down’ to ‘Thalaivar’, ‘master’ Shankar and other members of the team.
The sound designer of the movie, Resul Pookutty, shared some of the visuals of the ‘madness, stampede and stupendous response’ at the theatres on the movie’s way to becoming ‘super duper hit.’
Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’ co-star Simran called the movie ‘marvellous creation’ and ‘ultimate’ for the social message and ‘tremendous’ graphics. She also saluted Akshay and Shankar for joining the league and making it an ‘entertaining visual treat.’
Sivakarthikeyan, Kartik Subbaraj, and Pa Ranjith were among the others who lauded the movie, with words praising ‘mind-blowing’ Rajinikanth for ‘setting the screen on fire,’ ‘epic’, 'mass overloaded’ and ‘visual extravaganza.’

Meanwhile, the movie has taken a bumper opening at the Chennai box office, beating the record set by ‘Sarkar.’
According to initial reports, the movie has earned Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai beating the Vijay starrer’s tally of Rs 2.37 crore. The countrywide collections are yet to arrive, but no doubt that it will be a good number too.
‘2.0’ also stars Amy Jackson and is backed by Lyca Productions and presented by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
