'Maidaan': Ajay Devgn To Explore 'the Golden Era Of Indian Football', Kickstarts Shooting

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn recently commenced the shooting for his upcoming sports drama 'Maidaan'. The film is all set to highlight the golden years of Indian Football. Announcing the beginning of the shoot on social media, the actor unveiled the first poster of the upcoming venture on Monday. The poster shows a huge football in the shape of a globe and the 'The Golden Era of Indian Football' is described from 1952-1962 written on it. The poster also gives a glimpse of a jam-packed stadium with a match being played in it.

As per media reports, Ajay Devgn will reportedly essay the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in the film. The 'Singham' actor will star alongside National Film Award winner Keerthy Suresh.

The film is directed by 'Badhai Ho' fame filmmaker Amit Ravindernath Sharma and Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta will jointly producing the film.

The announcement of the film has intrigued several football fans. Not just the audience, several Bollywood stars also hailed the makers for taking up the initiative. Arjun Kapoor appreciated father Boney Kapoor or bringing forth the "untold story" to the audience.

Sharing the poster on his official Twitter handle, Arjun wrote, "So proud of Dad, Amit and Ajay sir for telling this untold story of the golden years of football.."

What's next for Ajay Devgn

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ajay who was last seen in 'De De Pyaar De' will be next starring in 'Bhuj: Ride of India'. In the patriotic drama, he will be essaying the character of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik who was in-charge of Bhuj airbase during the 1971 war, which remained operational despite facing heavy bombing from Pakistan. Moreover, he will also be starring in Om Raut's historical drama 'Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior', based on Subedar Taanaji Malusare, the military leader in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who lost his life in the battle at Fort of Sinhagad. The film also starring Saif Ali Khan is set for 2020 release.
