Kangana Ranaut has already made a massive impact this year with the release of 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'. The film which earned critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike has set the ticket window on fire. After a good start on Friday, the numbers have only been going up and now that the third-day figures are in, it is clear that this historical epic is going to be a trailblazer.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned Rs 15.70 crore on Sunday. Owing to the weekend, 'Manikarnika' hit jackpot on Saturday and Sunday, as it earned more on the former day as it minted Rs 18.10 crore on Republic Day. Now, thanks to a brilliant weekend, the total collections has now reached Rs 42.55 crore, making the film another blockbuster for 2019.
The film opened on January 25 along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'Thackeray'. While both films have been rocking the box office, the Kangana Ranaut starrer has the clear upper hand in raking in the moolah. This is partially due to 'Manikarnika' being released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu whereas 'Thackeray' was released only in Hindi and Marathi. It remains to be seen how long does the biopic takes before it crosses Rs 100 crore mark. At the moment, 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' is the film which has the most profitable 2019 as it is all set to cross Rs 150 crore.
In the meantime, 'Manikarnika' drew comments from filmmaker Krish, who was actually directing the project but eventually walked out due to creative differences with the lead actress over a number of things. He has however expressed happiness that she has not tampered much with the film and most of the climax sequences shot by him has been retained.
