Although the original director of  'Manikarnika' is Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, reports suggested that he was busy shooting for the NTR biopic, that stars Nandamuri Balakrishnan and Vidya Balan in pivotal roles, and due to his absence, Kangana decided to direct the rest of the scenes of the film. Further, she also stated that Sood shot the 'kushti' scenes behind her back, but it is hardly known for an actor to shoot the entire scene, without a director.

Known for his professionalism, Sood has previously worked with women directors such as Farah Khan in 'Happy New Year' and has never seemed to have a problem with anyone. It seems like there is more than what meets the eye. If reports are to believed, Sood has had a two-decade-long career in Bollywood and is never known to have had any problems with anyone. In the movie, the 'Jodhaa Akbar' actor essayed the role of the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army, 'Sadashivrao Bhau'. Giving an insight into the controversy, Sood's spokesperson revealed that the main reason he decided to opt out of the film was the clash in dates.

Meanwhile, the actor who is working on Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer 'Simmba', had earlier told the makers of 'Manikarnika' about the dates and advised them to schedule well in advance. Sonu is to sport a bearded look for 'Simmba' Sood, while the makers of the historical movie wanted Sood to get a clean shave for a couple of scenes, which was not possible. As the dates kept clashing and caused inconvenience for the team of 'Simmba' to accommodate the demands of 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' are against Sood's professional principles and hence he decided to walk out of the film.
