With Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menon, an ensemble cast so huge, 'Mission Mangal' is being touted as India's first space film. In an exclusive interaction with Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, Akshay Kumar spoke about his image which has predominantly been as an action hero.

The actor, who is known for acing in action films, plays the role of senior scientist Rakesh Dhawan at ISRO. Talking about his change in his choice of film genres apart from action, Akshay Kumar said that he plays roles in all sort of films and that he enjoys the characters in all film genres:

"I have done all kind of films. Right now, I am also working on 'Sooryavanshi'. Previously, I have worked on 'Housefull 'and 'Pad Man.'"

When asked about his preference when it comes to playing key roles, Kumar said that all movies count and that he does not limit himself to a specific character. He asserted that because of the popular perception of masses about him being an action hero, he had suffered:

"Over 12 years, I have been considered as an actor who is good at action. No one gave me any other role. I urge people to avoid giving me a single image." 

The actor said that he is open to acting in any genre that is open to him. The actor constantly mentioned that he is open to exploring all possibilities in any genre of film. 

ABOUT THE FILM

In 'Mission Mangal', Akshay plays the role of a scientist, who along with fellow colleagues spearheads India's mission to send a spacecraft to orbit Mars. The film, directed by Jagan Shakti, is based on real-life scientists, who contributed to India's first interplanetary expedition, Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), launched by ISRO in 2013. The trailer of the movie has generated a lot of traction on social media. Other than Akshay Kumar, there are five more leading female actresses are in the film. The movie also stars veteran actor Dalip Tahil, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, and Sharat Saxena.

'Mission Mangal', produced by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions and Fox Star Studio, is scheduled to be released on August 15.
