First Day Box-Office collection: While Akshay Kumar scores the biggest opener with 'Mission Mangal', John Abraham's 'Batla House' fares decent

Day 1 box-office is report is out! Who is the winner — Akshay Kumar or John Abraham?

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to share the numbers and August 15 turned out to be fantastic for Akshay Kumar's 'Mission Mangal' while John Abraham's 'Batla House' fared decent on the box-office.

Taran Adarsh stated that 'Mission Mangal' is Akshay Kumar's highest opener till date with the movie earning Rs. 29.16 crores on Thursday. Meanwhile, 'Batla House' collected Rs. 14.59 crores on Day 1. Take a look at the tweet -

MISSION MANGAL

Starring Akshay Kumar, the Jagan Shakti-directed movie, touted as India's first space film, follows scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission. Besides Akshay, the film also features Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menon.

"Mission Mangal" is produced by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions and Fox Star Studios.

BATLA HOUSE

‘Batla House’ is based on the real-life incident in 2008 of a police raid at a flat at Batla House in Delhi, which got termed as an ‘encounter’ or even a ‘fake encounter’ after two alleged terrorists were killed, one  arrested and two escaped.

John plays the role of ACP Sanjay Kumar, based on real-life supercop ACP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav while the movie also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, among others.
