Richa Chadha and Swara Bhasker have come out in support of Naseeruddin Shah after his recent comments on the Bulandshar violence and religion sparked a row.

The veteran actor in an interview had said that the death of a cow has more significance than that of a police officer. His comment came in the wake of the violence that claimed the life of SHO Subodh Kumar Singh and a 20-year old man following a cow slaughter incident in Bulandshar. He also stated that he is worried for his children in India as they don’t belong to any religion, and they will have no answer if a mob surrounds them.

Swara Bhasker was among those who came out in support of the veteran actor, sharing the video of his interview and backing him with the words, “More power to you.”

Richa also backed Shah stating one of the reasons why actors don’t voice their opinions is due to the fear of a backlash over it. She added that actors are also ‘tax-paying voters’ and had every right to express.

Earlier, Shah’s ‘A Wednesday’ co-star Anupam Kher had disagreed to his views and asked him how much more freedom he needs and that what he said was not the truth.

Naseeruddin Shah’s keynote address at the Ajmer Literature Festival was cancelled amid protests against him for his comments. The actor also clarified that his comment came out as a worried Indian and expressed surprise at being termed a traitor and asked to go to Pakistan.
