Mrunal Thakur to star opposite Shahid Kapoor in the Hindi remake of 'Jersey'

Mrunal Thakur has made quite a splash within her first two Hindi Films Super 30 and Batla House. She was seen acting opposite two of the biggest actors in Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham. It has been revealed that she will now be seen as the female lead in Shahid Kapoor’s next film Jersey.

Jersey is an official remake of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Telugu film of the same name. Gowtham Tinnanuri, the director of the original version and who is directing the Hindi version as well, only saw Mrunal Thakur as his first choice for the role. Gowtham revealed that after Shahid came on board, he only had Mrunal on his mind for the lead opposite him. Her performance and confidence in Super 30 was the reason he felt she’s perfectly fit for the part in Jersey and will do full justice to the role.

Looking at the original version, Mrunal Thakur’s character will be the anchor to Shahid Kapoor’s, who goes on an emotional journey against all odds to play cricket for the country in his mid-30’s, when it’s time for most people to retire from competitive sports. Mrunal Thakur expressed her excitement over working with Shahid Kapoor in Jersey. She stated that she was ‘bowled over’ by the amount of passion and the emotional journey that was displayed in the movie. She further added that she felt like she lived a full lifetime of experiences during the course of the film. The film- Jersey impacted her so much that she watched the film again the next day after thinking about it for the entire night. She concluded that she cannot wait for the Hindi audiences to get hooked on to the film as she did.

Shahid Kapoor recently posted a picture of himself preparing for the movie. Jersey will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanauri who helmed the critically acclaimed and commercially successful original as well. Produced by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju. Jersey is slated to release on August 28, 2020.
