Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone's first look from her upcoming film, 'Chhapaak' is out! The actress will be portraying the role of an acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal in the biopic that traces her whole journey and how she braved all odds. 

'Chhapaak' is being helmed by director Meghna Gulzar who is also known for her latest film, 'Raazi'. Not only is Padukone playing the lead role in the film, but she is also producing it.

Taking to Twitter, Noted south film critic Ramesh Bala shared the first look still on Twitter. He wrote: Here is @deepikapadukone 's FL as Acid Attack Survivor from the movie #Chappak She plays a character #Malti - Based on the true story of Acid Attack Survivor/Activist #LaxmiAgarwal Shooting starts today in Delhi.. #MeghnaGulzar directs.

in an interview the actress stated that she was deeply moved when she heard the story as it's not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory — and that made a huge impact on her both personally and creatively that she decided to go beyond and took the decision of producing the film.

The tagline of Chhapaak is, "A story of trauma and triumph. And the unquashable human spirit." Director Meghna Gulzar at an event spoke about Deepika's role and said: "You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika."

Meanwhile, the actress recently earned the honour of installing her wax statue at the prestigious Madame Tussauds in London. Dedicating the same to her foundation Live Laugh Love, Deepika touted the figure as the Statue of Purpose.Earning recognition worldwide, Deepika Padukone has not only bestowed the title of a global star by Vogue US but also graced the cover of the magazine.
