'My client is innocent and justice will be served': Nana Patekar's lawyer reacts after Mumbai Police files a B Summary report in Tanushree Dutta harassment case

After Tanushree Dutta's lawyer accuses police of 'acting negligently', Nana Patekar's advocate reacts to Mumbai Police filing a B Summary report in the sexual harassment case.

Former actress Tanushree Dutta's alleged harassment case against veteran actor Nana Patekar that instigated Bollywood's #MeToo movement last year has been in the news ever since. Recently, Mumbai Police has reportedly filed a B Summary report in the case, suggesting that they will seize investigation on the same. 

While reacting to the same, actress Tanushree Dutta's lawyer, Nitin Satpute has accused police of 'acting negligently' in order to protect Nana Patekar, the veteran actor's advocate also recently expressed his views on the same.  

As the reports surfaces, backing client Nana Patekar, advocate Aniket Nikam said, "The entire allegations against my client were false from the inception. My client is innocent and justice will be served."

The suburban Oshiwara police on Wednesday filed a 'B Summary' report before a metropolitan magistrate in Andheri, Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya told PTI. A 'B summary' report is filed when police cannot find evidence in support of the complaint and are unable to continue the investigation.

As the reports surfaces, Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer Nitin Satpute said that he has not got any official information from Oshiwara police station about the classification of the offense and even if they file any B or C classification of the summary report, that cannot be final, as they will challenge it before the court. He said that they are going to file a writ petition before Bombay High Court opposing the same.

In a recent statement,  Nitin Satpute said, "I have not received any official information from Oshiwara police station about classification of offense (Summary Report) from police on behalf of Tanushree Dutta, if  police files any B or C classification of summery Report, that cannot be final, we can oppose before court and after hearing if court satisfies then again it can be directed police to reinvestigation or Further investigations. Police acted negligently to protect Nana Patekar, many witnesses statement not yet recorded, one Shyni Shetty statement recorded partly, police have not investigated properly so we are opposing summary reports and also going to file a writ petition before Bombay High Court."

Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer last month has also vehemently denied that Nana Patekar got a 'clean chit' in the sexual harassment case filed against him by the former. Satpute stated that the rumors were being spread by the accused to get work in films again. He added that the charge sheet against the veteran is yet to be filed 'because all witnesses’ statements have not been recorded and that some are under pressure and some who lied in their statements. The lawyer stated that arresting the ‘Welcome’ star will be possible only when all the statements are recorded.
