Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is currently prepping for the release of his upcoming film 'The Dark Side Of Life: Mumbai City' recently stated that the country is lacking in creating awareness about mental health and that the depression epidemic in the country is growing, including the suicide rates. The veteran filmmaker stated that mental illness can be treated with the help of a proper doctor and medication. And, although the country is lacking in generating awareness about mental illness, there are people in almost every household that suffer from it. He further revealed that at the age of 16, Alia's elder sister Shaheen realised that she is suffering from clinical depression, and now in October 2018, she is launching her own memoir where she will be talking about the struggle she went through. Speaking about it, he disclosed that she had come to a point where she had thought about committing suicide.
Earlier in a report, Shaheen had spoken about her struggle with depression and stated that she has been living with it, since she was 12 years old, and she has been suicidal on more than one occasion. She further spoke about how she would always be consumed by the terrifying thought of having unrelenting anguish, hoping to get an escape from a bleak and unbearable future. Reportedly, commenting on the immense pressure of surviving in the industry, the veteran filmmaker stated that there is high-stress and due to which the people in this business are prone to substance abuse and mood swings, and are more inclined towards depression. His new film, 'The Dark Side Of Life: Mumbai City' showcases many sensitive issues such as communal harmony, mental health and loneliness. The film stars Nikhil Ratnaparakhi, Allisha Khan, and Neha Khan. It is produced by Rajesh Pardasani and helmed by Tariq Khan.
