‘Rocketry - The Nambi Effect’ is based on the life of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist and aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan, played by Madhavan.

Narayanan is known to have introduced liquid rocket fuel technology to India in the ‘70s and two decades later, as head of ISRO’s cryogenics division, was working on cryogenic-based fuels. However, he was arrested on charges of espionage in 1994 for selling confidential information about space missions to a Maldivian woman who passed it to Pakistan.

Narayanan had spent 50 days in jaill, however, later, the charges on him were struck down by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Supreme Court in 1996 and 1999 respectively.

As shown in the teaser of the movie, the plot revolves around how India’s Mission to Mars could’ve been achieved in ‘90s and not in 2014 if not for his arrest.

The movie will reportedly be releasing in mid-2019 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
