Team ‘Veere’ has recently launched the trailer of ‘Veere Di Wedding’. However, it seems the social media is not in the mood to accept the movie with open arms. Social media thinks Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Kareena Kapoor Khan's stand on Kathua rape case was hypocritical as their outrage against rape was 'selective'.
Earlier, amid the growing outrage over the rape of girl child in Kathua, celebrities including Kareena, Swara and Sonam had joined the campaign #JusticeForOurChild, to demand justice for the minor rape victim. Now, social media is slamming the actresses calling their move as hypocritical and a ploy to promote their upcoming film. The netizens anger reflects from the actresses’ alleged silence on a recent rape incident. The Twitteratti is also alleging that the actors' selective outrage show their motive to malign a certain religion.
However, Swara Bhasker has hit back at those who slammed the 'Team Veere' for not standing up to the cause of another rape victim. Taking to Twitter, she retweeted a previous tweet of hers wherein she had reacted on the rape incident while quoting a news report.
While retweeting, she slammed those spewing hate for her upcoming movie, saying, “Haters.. pls have a look below before you take off.’
The netizens are also angry over the Bollywood Divas’ silence over veteran choreographer Saroj Khan’s shocking defense of casting couch in the film industry.
On Wednesday, when Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, and Kareena Kapoor were asked about their take on the Saroj Khan controversy, they initially reacted how Ranbir did in the similar situation on Tuesday. Their first reaction was to laugh than to keep tossing the question to each other in an attempt to dodge it. Eventually, Swara said since they were promoting their upcoming movie ‘Veere Di Wedding’, they should just stick to the question related to the movie.
“The question has no relation to ‘Veere Di Wedding’, we will talk about all of this somewhere else,” Swara had said.
She was then joined by Sonam Kapoor who said that she promises to answer the question but on Twitter.
Sonam said, “Every question which is not related to the film, all of us, I, Swara, we will answer this on a one-on-one basis,” “On Twitter,” Swara added to Sonam’s sentence.
However, two days down the line, there are still no reactions from the actresses on the casting couch shocker. Having said that, the boycott raises a harrowing question, will the issue of rapes in India be resolved by boycotting a movie?
'Veere Di Wedding', produced by Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor and directed by Shashanka Ghosh, is slated to release on June 1.
