While the whole country is celebrating the achievements of 'Period. End of Sentence' which has bagged an Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards, netizens have highlighted another film 'Mere Pyare Prime Minister' which according to them has the potential to have been nominated for the prestigious award.

The 91st Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Monday, February 25, and the star-studded event was attended by several global celebrities. India based documentary film 'Period. End of Sentence' has bagged an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category, making the country proud. The film highlights Indian women's fights against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation.

While the whole country is celebrating the achievements of the film, people on the internet have highlighted another film, which according to them has the potential to be in the Oscars, however, did not make it up to the same, it is the much-anticipated social drama 'Mere Pyare Prime Minister'.

On Monday, following the Academy Awards 2019, a hashtag that read 'A Film That Didn't Go To Oscars' started trending on Twitter as netizens expressed their wonder to why 'Mere Pyare Prime Minister' was not nominated for the Oscars. They also said that the film set on Mumbai's Dharavi slum reminded them of the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' that bagged the prestigious award years back.

'Mere Pyare Prime Minister'  helmed by director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is born out of a tragedy which deals with the sensitive issue of open defecation. It narrates the story of an 8-year-old who aspires to build a toilet for his mother and lands up in front of the Prime Minister's residence for the same. It narrates the journey of the boy named Kahnu, who stays in a slum that has no toilets. He lives with his mother Sargam, played by Anjali Patil, who he loves a lot. He does odd jobs to support her in running their household. However, their lives take an emotional turn when one day, Sargam goes out to defecate in the middle of the night and is raped by a man on her way back home. The little boy writes a letter to the Prime Minister to avenge his mother, considering him the most powerful man in the country.

The trailer of the much-anticipated social drama 'Mere Pyare Prime Minister' released on Sunday, February 10 and the film looked promising from the very first visuals. The innocence and strong determination of the young boy, played by Om Kanojiya, has won the hearts of the viewers. The cast of the film also includes Atul Kulkarni, who plays an official at the Prime Minister's Office, who promises to forward his letter. The film is scheduled to release on March 15, 2019.
