  • CINTAA held a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday where they spoke about all the cases and the steps that they plan to take in the future
  • The body gave detailed responses to the respective cases at the forefront of the #MeToo movement, like Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar, Gaurang, Alok Nath-Vinta Nanda and other controversies.

As allegations have been mounting on several celebrities as a part of the #MeToo movement, the Cine And TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) has also come into the picture for ignoring Tanushree Dutta's complaint against Nana Patekar. They have also taken action in the case of Vinta Nanda's accusations against Alok Nath by sending the veteran actor a show-cause notice. The organization held a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday where they spoke about all the cases and the steps that they plan to take in the #MeToo movement.

"Most important issue is sexual harassment. We have been singled out, but it's not only us, this problem persists in all the industries.  We have been ignoring it, but the true survivors and victims need to be thanked. All the flag-bearers need to be careful," said Sushant Singh, CINTAA Secretary.

He continued, "Some fake accounts have come up and stories are planted which might cause a hijack of the movement. I request all the media publications to verify and approach both the sides rather than putting questions on one person."

On new talent being asked for sexual favours, he said, "Fresh talents don't have any choice when they are asked for a compromise. But let us not paint the whole country as black. Sexual offers without consent are forceful towards the victim."

He added, "We need to weed out the wrong people. Name people and shame them. We were shocked at the stories on social media. Don't victimize such people who are coming out and raising their voice."

Talking about Tanushree Dutta's allegations against Nana Patekar, he said, "An apology was issued for not taking action until now on Nana Patekar. We have not taken any action until now on Nana Patekar. We asked Tanushree for a re-complaint so that we can restart the investigation on the case, but the matter is under police investigation. Police asked us for a statement and original documents, which we have submitted. Nana is cooperating with the police and we have sent a letter to him."

On Alok Nath-Vinta Nanda row, he said, "Vinta has got the answer of the notice. Alok Nath has denied all the allegations. But many other people came forward and accused him, so we will take a strong step. Navneet Nishan is ready to support us. We have sent a show-cause notice to Alok Nath."

He also reacted on 'Stree' actress Flora Saini's allegations of abuse against producer Gaurang Doshi. "It's a domestic violence case. We support her and we will keep up the pressure so that she gets justice."

On the path ahead in dealing with the menace, he said that the organisation has planned steps, which also includes working with POSH at Work, which deals with sexual harassment and also the Producer's Guild of India. He also revealed that CINTAA is planning to create a sub-committee which will include Raveena Tandon, Amol Gupte and Renuka Shahane as members.

"Since 2015 we have been speaking in these cases. Awareness campaigns and posters on every set. We promise we will keep you all in the loop about the further proceedings. All shooting sets should have CCTV cameras. We went to sets and didn't find fire drill at any sets. Why should we bear a producer's loss? I request all the producers, directors, co-ordinators. We took serious action on the basis of Jyoti Sharma and Pranav Misssra's complaint against a producer about the working conditions. Now the whole TV industry has blacklisted them."
