In the wake of the ongoing #MeToo controversy, recently veteran music composer-singer Anu Malik was accused of sexual harassment by singer Shweta Pandit and Sona Mohapatra. Malik has denied all allegations made by singer Shweta Pandit, who had called him a "pedophile" and "sexual predator".
Anu Malik's lawyer, Zulfiquar Memon spoke on his behalf and said, ''The allegations made against my client are emphatically denied as completely false and baseless. My client respects the #MeToo Movement but to use this movement to start a character assassination mission is obnoxious"
Shweta Pandit had taken to Twitter to narrate the ordeal she had to undergo at the hands of Anu Malik.
She wrote ''He asked me to sing something without any music as he wanted to hear my voice. I remember I sang the title song of Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega as a voice test for this man. I sang it well so he said, 'I'll give you this song with Sunidhi and Shaan but first give me a kiss now' He then smiled, what id recall the most evil grin I've seen. I went numb and pale in the face. I was only 15 years old then, still in school. Can anyone even imagine what it felt that moment ? It felt like someone had just stabbed me in my stomach. I referred to this man as "Anu uncle", he knew my entire family for decades. [SIC]
Prior to Shweta, singer Sona Mohapatra had accused the 'Indian Idol' judge of sexual harassment. Here's an excerpt from her elaborate post.
"The first time I met Anu Malik was on Oct 2006 for the rehearsals of MTV Lycra style awards, he invited both Ram & me for lunch at the ITC Grand Maratha having worked with Ram as a youngster. Didn’t know we were married, the moment I went to the restroom says- ‘Kya Maal hai Sampath’ Subsequently Anu M used to call up randomly at strange hours, leave missed calls or once in a while when I picked up awkwardly, talk incessantly. I stopped taking his calls because I felt no need to tolerate this for the hope of singing a song for him. This was 2007-08.'' [SIC]
