#MeToo | Director Mukesh Chhabra Suspended By Star India From 'Kizie Aur Manny' Post Sexual Harassment Allegations

  • The film’s studio, Star India has suspended Mukesh and released a statement saying that it takes allegations of sexual harassment of women at workplace ‘very seriously’.

Casting director Mukesh Chhabra was recently caught in the whirlwind of the #MeToo movement. He was accused of sexual harassment by four women and one of the four women who accused Mukesh of sexual misconduct was quoted as saying that he grabbed her hand and felt her upon in the name of showing her how a scene needed to be done.

The casting director who was set to make his directorial debut with 'Kizie Aur Manny', has been suspended from the film following accusations of sexual harassment. The film’s studio, Star India, shared a statement saying it takes allegations of sexual harassment of women at workplace ‘very seriously’.

Fox Star India shared a statement on Twitter on October 19. “As a responsible organization, Star India takes any allegation of sexual harassment of women at workplace very seriously hence Fox Star Studios has suspended the services of Mukesh Chhabra, director of our film, Kizzie Aur Manny, which is under production, till the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of M/s Mukesh Chhabra Casting Company concludes its inquiry into the allegations against him,”

Recently, Tess Joseph, who was the co-panelist for the session at India Film Project announced on social media that she spoke to the team at India Film Project and casting director Mukesh Chhabra has been replaced with another film professional. She stated that he will no longer be on the panel and that Team TJC supports and stands by #MeToo.

Mukesh Chhabra, however, denied all such allegations in a post on Twitter. He stated that it is unfortunate that all his hard work has been muzzled with a series of anonymous allegations. He further stated that the complaint should have first been sent to an ICC committee for investigation. In light of the accusations, the director was immediately replaced by another film professional from the India Film Project.
