#MeToo | From Vikas Bahl To Alok Nath, Here's A List Of Alleged Harassers Whose Names Have Come Up In India

In the last couple of days, a lot of victims have spoken up and exposed their exploiters who happen to be some eminent personalities of the entertainment industry. Tanushree's accusations against Nana had a domino effect of what is now been called Bollywood's Me Too movement.

On September 25, 2018, Tanushree Dutta left the Nation in a state of aghast when she disclosed about an incident that took place 10 years ago. She accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of alleged misconduct on the sets of the 2008 film 'Horn OK Pleassss' while filming a dance sequence. Ever since the revelation, this became a burning topic of discussion, and a lot of Bollywood celebrities commented on the same. Tanushree's accusations against Nana had a domino effect of what is now been called Bollywood's Me Too movement.

In the last couple of days, a lot of victims have spoken up and exposed their exploiters who happen to be some eminent personalities of the entertainment industry. Every hour in the last few days has come as a shock with alleged sexual harassers getting unmasked. It started with veteran actor Nana Patekar and director Vivek Agnihotri and now many more names have been added to the list of predators. How it all began and who all are involved in this, is a question a lot of people are wondering. Here's a summary of what ignited the #MeTooIndia movement and everyone involved in it and the consequences. 

1) Nana Patekar 

Veteran actor Nana Patekar was accused of alleged misconduct by former actress Tanushree Dutta. She accused him of intentionally wanting to do intimate steps with the actress while filming a dance sequence for the 2008 film 'Horn OK Pleassss', she further accused him of threatening her to keep shut by getting her mobbed and attacked by a set of goons. 

Consequences: Post this, Tanushree filed a complaint against him and recently recorded an official statement, and the court case shall proceed soon.

2) Vivek Agnihotri

Director Vivek Agnihotri popularly known for his 2005 film 'Chocolate', was accused by Tanushree Dutta for allegedly asking her to strip naked and dance during a song sequence and claimed that the director tried to make her feel uncomfortable on purpose. 

Consequences: Tanushree Dutta has filed a complaint against the director too followed by the official statement. 

3) Chetan Bhagat

Renowned writer Chetan Bhagat has been accused of alleged misconduct by an anonymous victim as she shared screenshots of her chat with the author. In the screenshots, it is evident that the woman kept denying Chetan Bhagat's proposals despite his rigorous attempts. 

Consequences: A few days after this went viral, Chetan Bhagat issued an apology to the girl and took to his social media to also apologize to his wife Anusha.  

4) Alok Nath 

Until a few hours back, he was known as the most 'Sanskaari' person in the film fraternity due to the kinds of roles he has done so far. But his entire image came crashing down when 90's show 'Tara' producer Vinta Nanda accused him of rape and brutality. Vinta didn't take Alok Nath's name in her elaborate post but she clearly hinted at the term 'Sanskaari' which is only used in reference to Alok Nath. 

In the same post, Vinta also mentioned that Alok Nath was an alcoholic, and accused him of allegedly feeling up the lead actress of the show, Navneet Nishan. Just recently, Navneet Nishan too took to her social media to support the claims made by Vinta. 

Consequences: As of now the actor has neither denied the accusations nor has he accepted them.

5) Vikas Bahl 

Vikas Bahl was accused by a former Phantom employee of alleged sexual harassment. She liked to keep her anonymity intact but revealed that in 2015, post a party in Goa, the 'Queen' director had sexually harassed her in her hotel room. The cast and crew had gathered together for a party. Post the party, Bahl offered to drop the woman home and as she rushed to the washroom he slyly entered her room and pretended to pass out on her bed. After several failed attempts of sending him back, the woman made a divider with the pillows and slept, but to her horror, Vikas allegedly slipped his hand under her dress and when she resisted that, he pulled his pants down to masturbate and left after that. 

Actress Kangana Ranaut supported the girl's claims and said that he would hold her really tight and would smell her hair on the sets of 'Queen'. Post that, another 'Queen' actress, Nayani Dixit accused Vikas of alleged misconduct. She claims that he also tried his hand on her. She had to warn the director to maintain distance. 

Consequences: Vikas Bahl is one of the four partners of Phantom films which has been announced to be dissolved. It is said that the reason for the dissolution is the accusations made on the director. Anurag Kashyap, co-owner of Phantom films, said that he knew about the harassment, but could not do anything. He also said that they will stand by the victim and give her their support. 

6) Rajat Kapoor

Journalist Sandhya Menon recently shared a post, wherein two women had accused the 'Kapoor & Sons' actor of alleged misconduct. One of the two women is a journalist, who stated that while she was interviewing Rajat Kapoor on the phone, he misbehaved and asked her questions such as 'are you as sexy as you sound', also inquired about her body measurements. Another woman narrated an incident where the actor would keep bothering her and calling her for a film's shoot and asked her if she knew an empty house. Apparently, Rajat wanted to shoot a film with her in an empty house. 

Consequences: Rajat Kapoor's film 'Kadak' has been dropped from the upcoming 20th edition of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival due to the#MeToo movement.

7) Kailash Kher 

The popular singer was accused of inappropriately behaving with a woman reporter and alleged misconduct. The journalist said that she and another female reporter had visited the singer house for an interview, Kher intentionally sat between the two and allegedly kept putting his hand on their thighs. 

Consequence:  Kher offered an apology in his statement, saying he regrets any unintentional behaviour on his part that may have made the complainant uncomfortable.

8) Zulfi Syed 

Bigg Boss 2 contestant Zulfi Syed has been accused of alleged sexual misconduct by a female journalist on the social media. She narrated an episode with Zulfi who tried to force himself on the woman which left a drastic impact on the anonymous victim. 

Consequences: Zulfi Syed hasn't been responding to the media and neither has he made any statement regarding this.

9) Utsav Chakrabarty

All India Bakchod fame Utsav has been accused of sending explicit messages to several women. A Twitter user pointed the irony in the latest tweet by the comedian. She accused the comedian of being disrespectful towards women, by sending them sexually explicit messages. The user also posted narratives told to her by several other women about the nature of Utsav. When a lady complained about Utsav to AIB co-founder Tanmay Bhatt, Utsav threatened the girl. 

In context to this, while the alleged harassment took place, Tanmay Bhatt was completely aware of it but chose not to do anything about it.

Consequences: AIB has decided to de-list every video featuring a former member who has been accused of sexual harassment by women on social media. If these allegations result in any investigation, the team at AIB would be willing to cooperate and extend full support to it. 

10) Gursimran Khamba

Gursimran Khamba, the co-founder of AIB, was accused of alleged sexual harassment by an anonymous victim. She described the emotional harassment too that Khamba caused her. In a statement that the comedian released, he accepted a few things as he denied the allegations that claimed he was forceful. He issued an apology to the victim. 

Consequences: Tanmay Bhatt and Gursimran Khamba have temporarily stepped down from their position of co-founders at AIB, till the investigation comes to an end and there is more clarity. 

11) Anu Malik 

The veteran music composer has been accused of sexual harassment by singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit. Post the accusations made by these two female singers, two more anonymous victims came forward and accused the music composer of sexual assault.  

Consequence: After the allegations levelled against Anu Malik, the veteran stepped down as the judge of the reality singing show 'Indian Idol 10'. 

12) Suhel Seth 

 Author and managing partner of consultancy firm Counselage India, Suhel Seth, has been accused by six women including a minor of sexual harassment. Filmmaker Natashja Rathore, Journalist Mandakini Gahlot, writer Ishita Yadav, Writer Anisha Sharma, Author Ira Trivedi, and Bigg Boss fame Diandra Soares have all accused him of sexually harassing them.

13) Sajid Khan 

Director Sajid Khan has been accused of sexual assault by three women. A journalist opened up about the harassment on Twitter and had mentioned that she was at his house to take his interview and that's when he harassed her by flashing his genitals at her and further assaulted her by forcefully trying to kiss her.

Consequence: Sajid Khan was replaced by another director in the film 'Housefull 4' after the news came out. 

14) Anirban Blah

Celebrity management company's founder  Anirban Das Blah has been accused him of sexual misconduct by four women, aspiring and established actors. Blah was accused of asking women to strip, trying to kiss them, inviting them to their hotel room by saying 'casting happens in bedrooms and not in public spaces', asking one of them if she's ready to be a part of an 'unnatural sex set-up' and also telling another on that she won't succeed in the industry because she had 'small breasts.'

Consequence: As a result of the accusations, he was removed from the company and they broke all ties with him. Deepika Padukone's NGO too put out a statement that he has tendered his resignation to the Board of Trustees                                                                                                 

15) Mukesh Chhabra

A woman accused casting director Mukesh Chhabra of sexual misconduct and was quoted saying that he grabbed her hand and felt her upon in the name of showing her how a scene needed to be done. A few more allegations were made against him. 

Consequence: Post this, he was dropped from the India Film Project Panel and was removed from his directorial debut 'Kizie Aur Manny'

16) Arjun Sarja 

South actress Sruthi Hariharan accused acor Arjun Sarja of sexual harassment. Detailing an instance while shooting for their bilingual film 'Nibunan' or 'Vismaya,' Sruthi claimed Arjun pulled her close to him for a tight hug and moved his hands on her back without any 'forewarning' or 'permission' while they were rehearsing a scene. She claimed that the actor asked the director if the scene would be shot that way and she added that wasn't how the scene was written in the script. 

Consequence: Arjun Sarja denied allegations made by Shruti and has filed a defamation case against her but actors like Prakash Raj and Shraddha Srinath came out in support of the actress.
