Tanushree Dutta coming out about an incident that took place on the sets of 'Horn Ok Pleasss' has kicked off India's very own 'Me Too' movement. With several women come forward and speak about any such incidents that they may have faced, several eminent personalities including Vikas Bahl, Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor and Kailash Kher have been accused of misbehaviour towards women. Recently, producer of a popular 90s show, Vinta Nanda opened up about when the lead actress of the show was misbehaved with by veteran actor Alok Nath.
In an elaborate Facebook post, she narrated the details of the horrific incident that took place back in the 90s. Vinta accused veteran actor Alok Nath of alleged rape and brutality. After the accusation of an alleged rape on Alok Nath, CINTAA has decided to send a show and cause notice to the 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' actor.
Himani Shivpuri who has worked with Alok Nath for films like 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!', 'Pardes', 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' to name a few told PTI, "If he has done it, then it is very bad. You Cannot force any woman to do anything against her will, using your power. It is tough for women."
Shivpuri further added, "Whenever we shot in daytime, he would be mild and normal but after having liquor he used to be this Jekyll and Hyde person. He used to change completely. I heard from actresses that they had a tough time working with him." Himan Shivpuri also said that a veteran actor, who passed away recently, had once said that he chased her.
Himani also said, "People were not that willing to open up at that time, even Vnta reported this after so many years." Shivpuri also said that Alok Nath was often pulled up for his uncivil behaviour unlike his "sanskari" image created by the media.
"While we were in Dubai once for ITA Awards, he had consumed liquor and his wife was worried and was disturbed with his behaviour as he was drunk. He was also once caught peeing in open and was deplaned from a flight as he had misbehaved on the flight."
"Media it seems was ill-informed about his image. Everybody knows what kind of a person is. Some things are an open secret in the industry,”
“Yes, that is a part of the industry. There were known faces. Maybe at some point, I will come out with my #MeToo story. But very well known and important people have tried to take advantage of me or have misbehaved."
“They are still around. When I want to name them, I will name them. It will not be one name, there will be quite a few names. These incidents happened early in my career,”
“I was rude to them and I told them this is not done, I had put my foot down. For me it is not about survival issues. I have never had that fear in my life. I did not compromise ever. In the West, they have morality. We pretend to be moral people but we are not. We do not have a moral code.”
Several known names from the entertainment industry have been named and shamed. The movement which started on social media has left no stone unturned in an outing all those who have harassed others. Several Bollywood celebrities have spoken out in support of the victims of sexual misconduct. From Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, Twinkle Khanna, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Sophie Choudry, to Farhan Akhtar, all have been supportive and raised their voice against the issue.
