#MeToo: "I Was Sexually Assaulted At The Age Of Five," Reveals Salman Khan’s Ex-Girlfriend Somy Ali

From anonymous to well-known names, several women have come forward and revealed their shocking #MeToo stories. Vikas Bahl, Nana Patekar, Alok Nath are amidst the multitude of celebrities, who have been accused and are at a risk of their career-derailing.

In an interview given to a tabloid, Salman Khan’s first girlfriend, Somy Ali opened up on her #MeToo story. The former actress has gone on to narrate her experience from her childhood where she was sexually harassed at the age of five. She also revealed that there was an environment of domestic abuse while she was growing up in Pakistan and her curiosity in knowing about the bruises on other women was always shrugged off with the answer that they had ‘fallen down from the stairs.’

Somy said her mother’s reaction was standard, universal euphemism for physical abuse. On facing abuse at the tender age of five, she revealed that she shares the incident whenever she’s invited for lectures at high schools and universities in USA. Somy believes her story will push more women in opening up and not feeling ashamed about being a victim.

Somy is now ensuring that other women don’t go through what she had to face by setting up the organisation 'No More Tears'. The NGO has already aided numerous women in dealing with sexual abuse. She reveals her decision to set up the NGO was to eradicate the stigma associated with being a victim of abuse, both sexual and physical. She believes her personal story and stories of all who were rescued by her organisation will give more people the courage to speak about against their attackers.  

With more and more celebrities sharing their stories, there’s no doubt that the #MeToo movement has caught on in a big way in the country. The movement has started in India when Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of the film 'Horn Ok Pleasss' in 2008.
