Indian film industry's ongoing #MeToo movement has brought many popular names to the limelight. Where on one side survivors are voicing their opinions, accused on the other are being questioned about their stance. Bollywood is indeed going through a historic time.
Recently veteran music director Anu Malik was accused of misconduct by singer Shweta Pandit and Sona Mohapatra. While Anu has denied the allegations, he released a statement on October 21 saying he has taken a break from Indian Idol as he is unable to focus. Adding that the channel has been kind to agree for the same. The channel later confirmed his exit stating that the show will continue with its planned schedule.
In the wake of the recent events, veteran singer Alisha Chinai, speaking to The Asian Age, revealed that every word said by the survivor is true and that she stands by all the women who have spoken up. The 'Made In India' singer has previously dragged Anu Malik to the court for sexual harassment back in the 1990s.
Singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit accused the veteran music composer of sexual harassment. Post that two more victims came forward to accuse him. As of now, Anu Malik has denied the allegations calling it "ridiculous and baseless." Another victim shared her harassment story and said that she had met Anu Malik while she was still a struggler in the industry and during their second meeting at Sahara Studios in Goregaon he asked her if she had a boyfriend. When she said no, he said 'you must be so lonely'. He then asked her to wear a chiffon saree for the next time they meet. When she tried to leave, he grabbed her and hugged her while running his hands over her body. They were in a soundproof recording studio hence she could not even scream. She pushed him away which is when he said that “I am happy with my wife, I am a sensitive man.”
