With various sexual harassment allegations on eminent personalities from the Bollywood fraternity such as Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl and Nana Patekar, one can say that the #MeToo movement has reached the Hindi film industry. In the wake of the 'Me Too' movement that had earlier taken Hollywood by storm, former actress Tanushree Dutta accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. Tanushree's fight for justice has now taken a legal turn. Meanwhile, Dutta's brave step has now pushed several victims to share their stories. Several big-wigs from the entertainment industry have been named and shamed. The age of social media has left no stone unturned in shaming all those accused of sexual harassment. Recently, an anonymous account on Twitter posted allegations of sexual harassment against T-series head Bhushan Kumar
However, refuting all the allegations on him Bhushan Kumar in a statement to PTI said "I am appalled and anguished to know that my name has been dragged in this metoo by some anonymous person(s). The allegations against me are bad on the face of it. I have enjoyed an impeccable reputation and have always maintained professionalism. The tweet has been used as a tool to defame me and malign my reputation. I have taken this allegation very seriously and lodging a complaint with the cyber cell of the Mumbai Police to track the mysterious people(s) whose twitter handles have disappeared within seconds of uploading the malicious tweet. I’ll take all such actions as I will be legally advised.”
Apart from the Bollywood bigwigs, renowned writer Chetan Bhagat has been accused of sexual misconduct by an anonymous victim after she shared screenshots of her chat with the author. While Alok Nath has been accused of rape by popular 90's show 'Tara' producer Vinta Nanda. In a detailed post on Facebook, she also mentioned that Alok Nath was an alcoholic, and accused him of allegedly being inappropriate with the lead actress of the show, Navneet Nishan.
Several Bollywood A-listers have spoken out in support of all those victims of sexual misconduct. From Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, Twinkle Khanna, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Sophie Chaudhary, to Farhan Akhtar, and others are supporting all those raising their voice against this practice.
