However, following the release of the trailer, the film has been dragged into controversy with many people saying that the film has an anti-Brahmin stand.

Recently, the actor addressed the row during a recent interview and stated that the film doesn't take any sides. He said that he is aware of the ongoing controversy but before coming to any conclusion he asked the protesters to watch the film.

He said that the film does not take any sides and has no intention to showcase any community in a bad light. He also mentioned that the film has been censored by the censor board.

'Article 15', directed by Anubhav Sinha, is inspired by the heinous Badaun rape incident where two teenage girls were gang-raped and gruesomely murdered by hanging them while they were still alive.

Talking about the same, Ayushmann said, that the film is a content-driven film on the subject of discrimination itself. It is inspired by real events and it is not based on a particular event. It is an amalgamation of a series of events happening in our country. Yes, it's hard hitting and will make the audience face the uncomfortable reality. He further stated that this investigative drama is very relevant to the country and its youth. He further urged everyone to watch the film and not make any assumptions on the director's vision and intent.

The trailer of the film, which was released some time back, narrated the hard-hitting tale of the honour killing and the feckless attitude of the police department in dealing with the matters.

Apart from Ayushmann, the film also stars Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, M Naser, Ashish Verma, Sushil Pandey, Subrajyoti Bharat, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub in the film. The film, produced by Benaras Media Works, is slated to hit the theatres on June 28.
