PM Modi Biopic To Be Released In 38 Countries

Written By Aliza Noor | Mumbai | Published:

After the announcement on Friday by the makers of the 'Prime Minister Modi' biopic that it will release on April 11 when the 2019 Lok Sabha elections begin, the Producer,  Anand Pandit has said that the biopic will release in 38 countries, like  US, UK, Canada, Australia, and the UAE among others.

The biopic based on his life has been all over the news ever since its trailer came out. Getting off to a rough start, it has received a lot of criticim from the Oppostion parties, but clearances from the Delhi and Bombay High Court, and subsequently , setting the final date for its release, has given the makers a sigh of relief.

Pandit said, "PM Narendra Modi's life has great interest not just among Indian audiences but also cinema-goers across the world. We plan to release the film not just in the country but in at least 38 countries." He added that the film wil release in 1,700 screens in India and that they plan to release it in about 600 screens overseas.

Set to release on April 11, Vivek Oberoi, who is playing PM Modi in the film had tweeted about the finalised date:

He thanked the Indian Judiciary for supporting them and said that when they will be taken to Supreme Court on Monday, he hopes they will continue to do the same.
The film will be available in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. And they are planning to release it in other countries on the same day as well. Acting on Supreme Court's decision to set a date to hear a plea seeking to block the movie's release, the film makers had changed it to April 8 which soon changed to April 11.

Pandit said, "Now there should be no doubt on what the film is. It is a cinematic product. Those who have questioned the film and asked for a ban on it are the ones who have tried to stifle freedom of expression."

However, a plea filed by Aman Pawar, a Congress spokeman, has challenged the release of the biopic, saying that the film would distrub the level playing field during the election.
Reacting to the criticism of the film's alleged propaganda, he said, "This is a film that is inspiring and at the same time entertaining. Those who are calling it agenda-driven haven't even seen the film." He asserted that they have not made the film to glorify the Prime Minister or in response to the questions raised by the Opposition parties, but that they have only focused on his journey, steering clear of hardcore politics.
